2018-2020 I lived in Seville, Spain working as a communications specialist for The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod’s mission in Spain. As the only team member specializing in communications, I increased the church’s visibility through improvements to property, updates to existing online presence, creation of new social media profiles, and initiation of English language activities.
I set up the church’s Twitter, Instagram, WhatsApp, Google Business, and YouTube profiles and kept the copy and graphics consistent with the church’s brand. I created and posted content, researched hashtags, found accounts to follow, and interacted with followers. I set up an account for the church on Later.com to facilitate collaboration, brand consistency, and scheduling, and I developed a customized strategy, including best practices, for our Instagram and Twitter. Below I’ve included links to several of our accounts, including our WordPress website and one of the weekly emails we send out. I also designed our email templates and put together a strategy for our email communications.
Each year while I was in Spain I took the information our members needed to know about our annual assembly and organized it into a visually appealing and easy to understand format. This helped keep members informed, facilitated sign up, and we used the schedules digitally and in print at the event itself.
Above are two flyers I designed to reach two of our key demographics: Spaniards wanting to practice their English, and Lutheran immigrants - specifically Lutherans (most likely American) studying abroad in Seville.
Stepping into a new church is scary, so one of my goals for the physical church was to make it as approachable and inviting as possible. One source of discomfort I noticed was that people weren’t sure what to take with them before sitting down. Our hymnals were hidden in boxes on a cube shelf from IKEA, so I designed the below sign telling people what they needed and where to get it before they sit down.
